Manager & Coach Certifications

Coaching

NCSYBL strongly recomends that all managers and potential managers complete coaches training By attending a coaches clinic held by local High School and current college coaches. Certification will be given and is valid for 3 years and it will add credibilty to your application.

Concussion & Head Injury Certification

The “Youth Sports Concussion Protocols” became effective in California on January 1, 2017. The new protocols (contained in California Health & Safety Code Section 124235) mandate, amongst other requirements, that every coach shall be required to complete a concussion and head injury education course, either online or in person, BEFORE supervising any athlete in a youth sports organization. Furthermore, it requires all athletes over 17 years of age and parents of athletes under 17 years of age to read, sign, and return a concussion and head injury information sheet,

BEFORE the athlete can commence practice or competition.

In accordance with California law, no person shall be ratified or permitted to be a manager, head coach, or assistant coach for NCSYBL until that person has submitted a Certificate or other proof of completion of any of the following concussion and head injury education courses:

  • Head’s Up – Concussion Training
  • NFHS Learning Center – Concussion in Sports
  • Failure to complete an approved course AND to timely submit the Certificate or other proof of completion shall prevent ratification.
  • Team Managers will also be responsible for ensuring that a parent for each athlete on the team signs and submits an NCSYBL Concussion & Head Injury Information Sheet (see DOCUMENTS tab, above) BEFORE the first practice, game, or other athletic activity.
